Swarfega

The original, classic Swarfega green gel was invented by Derbyshire chemist Audley Bowdler Williamson in 1947. The name derives from “swarf”, a Derbyshire word for oil and grease, and “ega”, as in “eager to clean”. Swarfega became popular with mechanics in 1940s and 50s, with a formula that was more effective than soap at removing dirt.
