Howsafe Ltd Celebrates iiE Bronze Certification and Sets Sights on Silver Accreditation

We are thrilled to announce that Howsafe Ltd has achieved the Bronze level accreditation from Investors in the Environment (iiE) in June 2024. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to environmental sustainability and our efforts to embed eco-friendly practices across our operations. Our journey does not stop here, as we are now eagerly working towards attaining the Silver accreditation.

A Milestone Achievement

Howsafe Ltd, a family-run business based in Peterborough, has been dedicated to supplying high-quality workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the UK. Our first year of iiE membership has been marked by significant strides in environmental management, culminating in this prestigious Bronze accreditation.

Key Highlights from Our Bronze Certification:

• Environmental Management System (EMS): We have established a comprehensive EMS to continually assess and improve our environmental performance. This includes a robust Environmental Policy, resource measurement initiatives, waste management improvements, a travel plan, and enhanced communication with stakeholders.
• Green Champion Initiative: Our Green Champion, supported by the senior management team, has been pivotal in driving sustainability efforts. Actions such as switching to LED lighting, installing LUX & PIR sensors, and setting resource reduction targets have all contributed to our success.
• Community and Staff Engagement: We have undertaken various projects to support staff wellbeing, raise environmental awareness, and contribute to local and national charities. These efforts have helped us achieve a perfect score in the Environmental & Social Projects category during the audit.

Setting Our Sights on Silver

As we celebrate this milestone, our focus now shifts to achieving the Silver level accreditation. The journey towards Silver will build on the foundation laid during our Bronze certification, with a continued emphasis on environmental performance and sustainability.

Our Path to Silver Accreditation:

1. Enhanced Data Monitoring and Reporting: We will normalise our data to understand efficiency gains and review our resource consumption more frequently. This will help us monitor progress towards our reduction targets and refine our action plans.
2. Carbon Management: Expanding our carbon footprint calculation to include more Scope 3 emissions and setting interim targets will be crucial. We are committed to achieving net zero by 2050 and will encourage key staff members to undertake net zero training.
3. Waste Management Improvements: Regular waste audits will help us assess and improve our waste management system. We aim to further reduce waste and increase recycling initiatives.
4. Sustainable Travel Initiatives: Decarbonising our company fleet and promoting sustainable transport options among staff will be a priority. We will also explore grant-funded programs to increase EV charging points on-site.
5. Staff Engagement and Communication: We plan to create a dedicated sustainability page on our website and continue to engage staff through various communication channels. This will ensure that our environmental goals are well-communicated and supported by all.
